I wrote this before I left for New Zealand, and I hope I can get on line to read the comments about this video. Many of you have undoubtedly seen the video of the now famous Snowball dancing to music on Youtube. Here’s another one, which had me practically wetting my pants I laughed so hard. But in all due respect to Will Smith and his daughter, who wrote the song, this is not a piece of music that should live on forever. Watch at least to the middle though, the first part is funny, but about halfway in is when I started to lose it.
MEANWHILE, back on the farm: Oh my, it’s so far away–we’re on a plane right now (or will be when this posts), flying LA-Auckland, 13 hours. Finally broke down and bought a Kindle–13 hours is a 2 book trip at least, and we’ll be gone for 3 weeks. Here’s a photo I took right before I left, for me to look at when I can get on line. It’s not the greatest piece of photography in the world, but well, you know . . .

Birds like poppy hip hop… who knew? Man, that was a funny bird dance.

Speaking of hilarity, has anyone shared this with you yet? I apologize if someone else has posted this here, but I thought that you, and everyone else who posts here would find this as tear inducing hilarious as my husband and I did.

Well, I enjoyed the bird, but I have to say, Carrie, that the dog story left me on the floor in tears.
Have a great time in New Zealand, Trisha!!

Ah Carrie – PERFECT! I just ran across that blog entry earlier this week and now subscribe. That woman is a genious storyteller. And yes, I laughed out loud!

The song is indeed awful! Poor bird to have to dance to that, lol. Why couldn’t they play him some Mozart?

Now I’m wondering if many birds dance, or is this a unique one? I haven’t been around a lot of pet birds. It was fun to watch. My kids loved it too and our now singing the song- lucky me.

Beautiful picture of Sushi and Willie -nice to look at when you’re away. While I’m at it, thank you for taking time from “your” family to help us learn how to understand our “four” legged family members.
Time is precious – thanks again for sharing some of your time with us.

OK, this is not a video of a bird, but should be very entertaining for border collie types! In case the link doesn’t work, it’s a YouTube video called “The Collie Walk.” Hope you enjoy it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaLor7d7NEs&sns=fb

The video really cracked me up (and certainly not my type of music).
I suspect you will love the Kindle. I had one for a long time and then upgraded to an iPad this past spring. For anyone who travels, they are fantastic tools (and much lighter than lugging books in your suitcase).

I laughed at the videos and the blogs, but I also have actual scientific questions – do animals other than humans have a sense of music/rhythm? If so, how do you think they perceive music? What kinds of differences are there between species, and between individuals of the same species? (My husband has no sense of rhythm!) Is this an innate perception, or is it learned? And last, are there periods of development where they are more likely to understand music than others?
I’ll stop now – lol!
