This is what I did today instead of write a blog.
I’m so sorry.
Jim is not.
It’s from the New York Times Magazine, the Double-Layer Chocolate Chocolate Birthday Cake. You’ll use every pot and pan in your kitchen twice, it contains enough butter and sugar to fuel the citizens of a small state, my kitchen was a disaster zone when I was done, and yup, it was just what I needed today.
Any guilty pleasures for you recently?

Pretty sure I just gained 5 lb just looking at that picture! Glad you indulged yourself (and Jim)!

Looks fabulous! Every now and then I have a Holiday at Home day – prosecco, crisps, chocolate in the afternoon, pizza for supper, and absolutely no housework. It can take a few days of salads and soda water to recover if I overdo it, though!
Donna says
Good for you! Made me chuckle 🙂
Chris Wells says
That is just Awesome! Hooray for Jim! Sometimes there just needs to be cake.
Erin James says
Wroth it though, I bet. Every delicious calorie.

Looks delicious! Forget the blog for once. You are forgiven!

Today is my dog’s 9th birthday. I baked him cookies over the weekend. Perhaps I should bake a cake for myself to celebrate as well. Thanks for the great thought provoking idea!!

Guilty pleasures? Just took a week-long Dog-free vacation (first in a long while) to the Gulf Coast of FL. Enjoyed every fine restaurant in the area (gained a couple of pounds, although my lack of self-restraint around that cake probably would have done the same!), and shopped online for clothes for me instead of Dog stuff for the first time in a while. My foot is in a boot with a fracture, so I wasn’t able to be that active, but I did enjoy the pool and the ocean. Arrived home totally refreshed and ready to rock!

I do Doberman Rescue, and Friday I got a litter of four 9 week old puppies two of them positive for parvo and by the end of the weekend all four were positive. They are pretty sick little guys, and I’m one tired person, and bound and determined they WILL survive…. but I may have enough in me to make this cake and enjoy a few minutes of “sweetness” all on my own. Thanks for the inspiration.

I made a strawberry French toast bake for brunch this past weekend. Not something we normally have, but it was worth it! Your cake looks amazing!!

Ahhhh. My recent guilty pleasure: My young foster dog has been a challenge in many ways. He got adopted but they can’t take him until they move in June. They do visit and take him for a day here and there. Last weekend, it was just me and my two well-behaved pups for an entire day. What a wonderful, stress free day I had!

Ice cream for supper!

I’m with Jim. Never apologize for chocolate cake! And happy birthday, Jim. 🎂

Baking relives stress for me. But it’s the eating that does the trick.
Trisha says
Good philosophy… never apologize for cake. I’m going to remember that.

Must be some one’s birthday somewhere, right?
LisaW says
Yes, it is someone’s birthday somewhere. Back in the days when cake didn’t become a permanent fixture, we would celebrate anyone and everyone’s birthday. Walter Cronkite (Nov 4); Jimmy Carter (Oct 1); Jerry Garcia (Aug 1); Amelia Earhart (July 24), you get the idea. Plus our own birthdays — cake was our friend back then! It still is but we have it over less often. Hmm, whose birthday is it today? Ah, Linnaeus, the father of botany. Good enough for some carrot cake at least!
Chris from Boise says
Good priorities, Trisha! Jim and chocolate…:-)
Kathleen Povey says
You should never apologize for making a cake! My recent guilty pleasure, I am almost ashamed to admit. I had a bacon sandwich for dinner. Not a BLT. Just bacon between two buttered slices of crusty white bread. It was almost as good as chocolate cake.
Melanie Hawkes says
Good on you Trisha! 2 weekends ago I was pretty distraught and considered re-homing my reactive dog due to my neighbour’s dog barking all day. After 4 days of giving him treats every time we heard barking and not getting much else done, I decided I needed a break. I gave my dog a frozen bone, made myself a vodka and lemonade drink and did gardening for almost an hour! It was a great way for both of us to de-stress!
