Well, this is about as much fun as I’ve had in weeks. I thought I’d get some interesting photographs from you all when I asked for sweet/amusing/ridiculous images of your sleeping dogs. Little did I know that we’d get over 100 photos of dogs, sleeping in every imaginable position. I can’t possibly post them all, but I’m so grateful to everyone who sent one in that I’ve decided to post some today, wait a while, and post the rest of the best later.
Apologies, of course, for not being able to post all of them. If you don’t see the one you sent in today, it might appear in the second round. If not, know that just looking at your dog in slumber made me seriously happy, not to mention that you cared so much to take the time to send in a photo.
Here’s round one for today: Clockwise, from top left: Pavlov (with bowl), No names (sorry), but don’t miss that there are 2 dogs here!, Brodie & Sally looking like an ad for a couch, Pickle deep in dreamland, Jules in the dog bed 2 sizes too small and Atlas, in the sleeping position that, based on the photos sent, most delights us all.
Round Two, clockwise from top left: Nameless (perhaps it’s best for us to keep this private anyway?), two too adorable friends in mirror images, Max curled around his human’s arm, Cobi too tired to keep his eyes open after playing in the snow, Linc & Rascal attempting to increase our oxytocin levels, Belle looking as awkward as it is possible for a dog to look (and yet totally relaxed), and Brandy the snoozing Dobi, who makes me want to go to sleep right now.
MEANWHILE, back on the farm: Spring really is here, although the thermometer wasn’t convinced until just today. But it’s always spring when the lambs arrive! Too much to do with lambs on the ground to take too many pictures, but here’s my favorite from this morning–

Trisha thanks so much for collecting and posting those wonderful sleeping dog pictures. Clearly our dogs need to work on their silly sleeping poses!
Speaking of pictures, we met with Red Dog’s foster this weekend. He mentioned how much it means to the folks who work at the rescue organization, especially those who work on the administrative side, to receive pictures letting them know that their efforts have yielded good results.
The foster obviously had considerable affection for Red Dog and was delighted to see her again. To our great surprise, when Red Dog first recognized him she let loose a great big houndy bark – but not a friendly bark. We both interpreted Red Dog’s response as, “No, you are not taking me back, I like it here.”
Red Dog quickly got over it and played happily with the foster until he had to leave. We had just returned from an hour-and-a-half romp at the dog park, so Red Dog gave the (completely false) impression that she had matured and calmed down in her year with me. Yeah, right. 🙂

LOL, what a day-brightener! So glad so many people have captured such poses, and your captions are perfect. I especially love the ones of two creatures cuddled up together, and have always wished – in vain – that our dogs would.
That said – a miracle happened last night. Habi curled up back-to-back with a sleepy Obi, and stayed pressed spine-to-spine for several minutes. This was totally out of the blue. She’s quite sure that he (Obi) has cooties, and somewhat grumpily shifts away if he settles near her, or tells him off with a quick snark. (At most other times, they get along fine, but cuddling – no way).
We’ve been doing lots and lots of snuggling on a futon on the floor recently, as her activity has been severely curtailed after blowing out her knee in late Feb and surgery in March, and the futon is a nice break from the crate. Maybe she’s generalizing that snuggles with anyone, including Obi, is good – or maybe it was a fluke.
Thanks all who sent in photos – we look forward to seeing more!

Just what I needed this morning – thanks!

Oh, how sweet are they all! I forgot to send mine. Jack regularly does the sprawled-on-his back pose so popular with Corgis.

How sweet they all are! Seeing Jules crammed into the tiny bed is my favorite, though. What a riot.

@chris: while they were puppies Shadow and Spot would sleep on top of each other, but alas, no more…. Except when they are staying at the boarding kennel when we are on holiday. Then they are rumoured to lie on top of each other then..
@trisha: lovely selection, it must have been a difficult task! I love the way dogs can sleep with total abandon with all four legs in the air.
