All “back on the farm” today, having fun with my camera this weekend:
Maggie and I spent Thursday and Friday in heaven, learning learning learning, at a sheepdog clinic put on by one of my favorite sheepdog instructors, Scott Glen. I didn’t take many photographs but got lucky with this “money shot” of friend Donna’s four-year old dog, Davy. It’s the shot all of us want of our dogs, and really, really hard to get. Right time, right place. Lucky! And lucky me and Maggie to have learned so much; we came home, both of us, grinning like fools.
My dear friend Meg is visiting this weekend, and her brilliant, artful photography has inspired me. That and a plethora of blooming flowers in the garden and the prairies. And I’m so happy to have bees in the garden again.
Last iris to bloom, and a surprise to boot. Didn’t think that patch was going to bloom at all.
This is why they call it Prairie Smoke.
It’s hard to get photos of Tootsie now, because she sleeps so much. Her heart murmur has gotten serious and she’s teetering on the edge of congestive heart disease. But she still can look like a puppy when she’s excited outside. Here she is illustrating proper spaniel behavior.
Meg was helping me get photos of Tootsie running outside, when Nellie decided to photo bomb the project. Did you catch the look on Tootsie fact? Any translations?
Photo bomb number two, illustrating the out-of-this-world ability of a cat to find the vector of your focus and get inside of it:
Here’s what I was going for:
I hope your week is also full of beauty, joy and laughter.

What a beautiful cat!

Tootsie seems to be looking right into the cat’s eyes….”uhmmm, maybe I’ll change direction” is my guess. Great pictures.

Beautiful pictures. For some reason the crows have snipped off most of my lilies before they bloomed, and left the tattered remains all over. They didn’t do this last year. I think we have thug crows moving in. 🤔
I love seeing Tootsie pictures, and thinking what a great life you have given her after the horror of being a puppy mill dog.
Glad you and Maggie had a great learning experience together!

You live with my two favorite breeds of dogs. I have had border collie mixes then Cavalier King Charles. We have two CKC and both are seniors. When one of our dogs passed last year, the other two stopped playing. They are on Vetmedin because both have murmurs but I feel that the medication is giving them extra time. I would get a pup but I promised my husband a break to do some traveling. Then I will look for a rescue border collie. If any of your readers adopt a King Charles, they really need to educate themselves about their health issues, specifically mitro valve disease. There are support groups on facebook. Also they have a different white count than other breeds and many vets do not know this. One of mine ended up with several transfusions that were unneccessary because the vet thought that lab results were breed specific but that is not true. Love your posts. Hope this is helpful. I also hope to adopt another border collie or bc mix in a few years.

We live with a border collie/Aussie shepherd mix and she’s a never ending delight. We also have two senior cats who avoid her as much as they can. She’s learned that they’re not playmates so she doesn’t try to interact much-except for after dinner. Both cats come down to beg and she tolerates that. After they’ve finished eating she makes sure they go back upstairs where they belong!

Wowza! Wish I had a print of that last photo. It’s hang worthy!

My first dog in 55 years is Oliver a Cavalier King Charles with similar markings to Tootsie. What a joy! I am 75 and he is the best companion I could ask for. That pose in your picture of one foot raised and head lowered is so typical. I also love the way he likes to direct my gaze by looking from me to whatever he is pointing.

As always, I finished reading with a smile. I love the reminder that there is a huge group of gentle, dog-orientated people out there, I always like to read the comments as well to enjoy more of the warm fuzzy feelings! 🙂
