I’m officially on vacation as of today, Monday August 5th.
In lieu of a real post, I’m sending flowers. I am lost in the lilies.
Not to mention this ridiculously as-big-as-your-head hibiscus.
Maggie and I are working hard getting ready for the Midwest Championship Sheepdog Competition. Here’s a lovely view I enjoy while driving back from practicing on a friend’s huge field. (Thank you JH!)
Maggie needs to be comfortable running out over 350-400 yards to find the sheep (and I need to be comfortable sending her that far). I don’t have a field even close to that big, so we work on other things at home. Here we are coming back from a session on the farm on a hot day. I’m on “George,” our ATV that has saved me trudging up the long, steep hill several times a day. (It’s a Foreman, thus the name.) Maggie is driving the sheep down to mineral salt and water.
And here’s Maggie’s other reinforcement for working sheep, a cool wading pool. (The primary one, of course, is working sheep.)
May there be flowers, only for good reasons, in your life this week. Not to mention our precious families, which includes, thank god, our dogs.

Nothing shy about that beautiful in-your-face hibiscus! Trisha, thank you for sharing these photos. After the heartbreaking events of this past weekend, I appreciate the hope these pictures inspire. Communing with nature has always had a calming effect on me. That vista with the wildflowers was awesome and Maggie in her pool looked like she was delighted to be there. Enjoy your vacation and I wish you continued success with those training sessions!

Thank you for posting the pic of the hibiscus. We have them growing at the house we bought 3 years ago and I could never find online what they were. Now I know. I love them. They are so huge. Being that we get the same weather you do being in Michigan across the lake from you, hope that you are getting cooler days.

LOL, glad to see I’m not the only one who has a kiddy pool for their dog.
